GOLD Medal for America’s National Parks

America’s National Parks, A Pop-Up Book, has been awarded a Gold medal in the 17th Annual IPPY (Independent Publisher Book Award) in the category of Children’s Picture Book—All Ages!  Awarding 382 medals (72 Golds) out of 5200 entries, the IPPY recognizes excellence in independent publishing. “Conducted each year to honor the year’s best independently published books, the “IPPY” Awards recognize excellence in a broad range of subjects and reward authors and publishers who “take chances and break new ground.” Independent publishers, along with independent booksellers, have long held an important role in the world of books, offering an alternative to “the big five” conglomerated media publishers. Thanks to small presses, university presses, and self-publishing services that give experimental and entrepreneurial authors a platform, the IPPY universe is rapidly expanding — and that gives adventurous readers a plethora of new choices.”—www.independentpublisher.com

The award will be presented on Wednesday, May 29th in New York prior to the opening of the 2013 BookExpo. You can see a list of all winners by visiting HERE.

New Online Interview and Upcoming Appearance in Seoul

Today I am pleased to tell you that a new interview from book reviewer, Debbie Glade, has gone online here at Ronna’s Good Reads.  Ronna Mandel was kind enough to post Debbie’s interview about our newest book, American’s National Parks, which is currently available at www.nationalparkspopup.com.

In other news, I will be guest speaker at the World Pop-Up Exhibition in Seoul, South Korea this week. While there, I will view the exhibition and lead pop-up workshops for children for Korea’s National Children’s Day.  Look for a story on my blog soon about my experiences there! In the meantime you can find out more at their website (Google Chrome will translate some of it for us, fyi):  www.artcenterida.com   Subsequent pages can be found here and here! Posted here is a poster for the exhibition featuring Alice in Wonderland by my good friend and colleague, Robert Sabuda!
