Christmas Around the World

Chuck Fischer, Author and Illustrator, Paper Engineering and Design by Bruce Foster and Text by Anne Newgarten.
Chuck Fischer approached me to colloborate with him as the paper engineer on this wonderful book that he had conceived. Our collaboration has continued through 2008′s In the Beginning, and 2009′s Angels. They are in the beginning stages of a new release for 2010.
Chuck supplies the basic idea for the pop-in sketch form. Then I go to work to make it real, adding levels of complexity and technique. Then Chuck supplies the final art. I also supply the graphic design for the pages as well as all the many booklets throughout these books.
- Chuck’s sketch for the Germany spread
- The first engineered dummy for Germany.
- A montage of Christmas scenes and objects from Great Britain.
- Russia. Chuck’s idea was to house the Kremlin inside a Fabergé egg. Later we added the double-headed eagle, symbol of the Russian Orthodox Church.
- Germany as seen in the finished book.
- Italy. A live creche is inacted before St. Peter’s in Rome each Christmas season.
- North America. A nostalgic look at Santa and his reindeer. A free-standing “candy dish” replica of this scene is included in a hidden tray in the book.
